About Applegate
What we aim for: Applegate Preparatory Academy is a place of elevation in academics, behavior, and production of the good. Teachers, parents, and students who participate at Applegate aim for the highest in all subjects and work hard to achieve their goals.
How we operate: Applegate Preparatory Academy is an on-site academic center for grades k-8. We offer a la carte courses designed specifically for families who want an alternative schooling option for their children. Families can easily tailor their children's education selecting only the exact classes that will best suit their needs. Families can also opt to take all classes offered at a discounted rate for full enrollment.
Our preparatory academy offers both weekly in-class instruction with lessons running 60-90 minutes per week, as well as assignments and structured curricula to complete at home. Think of it as a "little university" for children. Students at Applegate are well-behaved and can enter their classes at their individual academic levels.
Applegate meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings
from 9:30am-12:30pm.
Teachers: Our instructors have both secular and practical experience in the subjects they teach, making them uniquely capable of providing a substantial supplement to your child's education. Explore our course offerings and give your child the personalized educational experience they deserve.
CLASSES OFFERED
Math
300/year
Students meet once a week with a math instructor and receive assignments for their daily homework. Students take tests and progress at their own pace.
Science
300/year
Students follow the Core Knowledge® Curriculum and are instructed in areas such as physiology, natural sciences, and earth systems. Students will take tests and receive weekly assignments.
Dance
150/semester
Students taking ballet receive once-a-week instruction from a ballet teacher and perform a final recital at the end of the semester. Students receive basic instruction, and more advanced students move forward at their individual level.
English
300/year
English instruction is based in the Core Knowledge® curriculum and is expanded by instructors. Students will read 7-10 classic books in the school year as well as write daily. Students will learn the art of storytelling in their writing as well as hone their capacity for literary analysis.
History
300/year
Students follow the Core Knowledge® Curriculum and are instructed in Ancient, American, and Civil History. Students receive instruction at their grade level, write essays, create projects, and take tests.
Art
150/semester
Students are instructed once a week in drawing, painting, and sculpting. Students complete projects in class and at home.
Orchestra
150/semester
Students will learn a stringed instrument and will perform at a recital every year at the Ross Ragland Theater. Students will also learn vocal basics.
Drama/Music
150/semester
Students will learn the art of acting, singing, and performance and will produce a full musical to perform for family and friends every year.
Kindergarten
1500/year
Kindergarten is based in the Core Knowledge® curriculum and students will receive in-class instruction as well as at-home study work to complete with a parent. Classes meet three times/week for three hours each day.
Applegate Dress Code
At Applegate, students wear a school uniform. Students find a sense of cohesion, professionalism, and a realigned focus on character as they wear their uniforms during school hours. Students at Applegate adhere to the dress code outlined in our Welcome Packet.
